Mentari Project New Centre launch...

I have been with Mentari Project for 3 years now and was one of the founding members. The cause means a lot to me and is a reflection how I believe in the power of education and how it can change people and nations.
The obligatory speeches
The original Mentari Project was run at a kindergarten on weekends in Block 8, Desa Mentari. That venue was not ours and during the week the kindergarten was in operation. This limited our activities. Alhamdulillah (thanks to God) we have registered our organisation as a proper registered charity so we can now receive cash donations and am able to offer tax  relief to our kind contributors. We can also now run the centre on weekdays and also have our own library from the donated books people have been kindly donating. Basically, this new centre has allowed us to run the Mentari Project as how we'd envisioned it 3 years ago.

The volunteers

The happy kids and volunteers. 3 years and counting!

The launching today involved the obligatory speaches from our rep, and the centre was officiated by the state representative for Seri Setia area who is also one of the founding members, YB Nik Nazmi or Budu as we KMYS graduates fondly call him. The kids know him as cikgu YB. This was followed by inviting to guests to come in and view the new centre. A few performances followed. The kids all came in and sang "Heal the world" by Michael Jackson. This was followed by a motivational talk by some activist that I forgot the name of. Lastly the kids came in again and sang "Gemuruh" which is the Akademi Fantasia theme song. I dunno who sings it as I dun watch Akademi Fantasia. The event ended with light refreshments.
